La Antigua which is considered the most cosmopolitan
of Guatemala's towns is a beautiful destination to delight the eye,
mind and palate of all visitors. The city is best known for its
lovely colonial ruins, the remain of churches, monasteries and convents
providing inspiration for artists and tourists alike. Several of
these monuments have been destroyed by earthquakes but there are
ruins and houses offering a truly outstanding example of the colonial
era.
A sixteenth-century convent brought up to the most
exacting modern standards, while retaining the elegance of bygone
times at The Cloister. Originally a 16th. century cloister and later
converted into a private residency, this place provides a rare opportunity
to visit a colonial home in La Antigua Guatemala. It is centrally
located under the Santa Catalina Arch, the city's signature monument.
This beautiful colonial home was built in the classic
Spanish style with very quiet and peaceful ambience. The rooms are
arranged around the central garden courtyard, comfortably furnished
with private baths and fireplaces; the individual suites have been
created, each with its own fireplace, library, and collectibles
including antique oak furniture.
